Visit the 131-foot (40 m) tall, stainless steel statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, on the bank of the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog (55 km /34.2 miles) east of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar. The statue is symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace. It is on top of the Genghis Khan Statue, a visitor centre, itself 10 metres (33 ft) tall, with 36 columns representing the 36 khans from Genghis to Ligdan Khan. It was designed by sculptor D. Erdenebileg and architect J. Enkhjargal and erected in 2008. Visitors walk to the head of the horse through its chest and neck, where they have a panoramic view. The main statue area will be surrounded by 200 gers, designed and arranged like the pattern of the horse brand marks that were used by the 13th century Mongol tribes. The attached museum has exhibitions relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures in Mongolia, which show everyday utensils, belt buckles, knives, sacred animals, etc. and a second exhibition on the Great Khan period in the 13 and 14th centuries which has ancient tools, goldsmith subjects and some Nestorian crosses and rosaries. Adjacent to the museum is a tourist and recreation centre, which covers 212 hectares (520 acres).
Gorkhi/Terelj National Park-is one of the most popular national parks in Mongolia. Gorkhi/Terelj features stunning granite mountains and flowery endless grassy green meadows. This picturesque National Park is a part of Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area. It is a great place for hiking, trekking, even you can rock climb here at its natural steep granite walls. The Terelj settlement is located in the valley of the Terelj River (Terelj Gol), about 70 km / 44 miles from the Ulaanbaatar city center by paved road. The national park tourist zone is formally in Nalaikh düüreg (district) part of Ulaanbaatar municipality, the rest of the protected zone beginning to the north of the Terelj River, is located in Mongolia's Töv Province (Töv aimag).
The park has many rock formations for rock climbers, and includes two famous formations named for things they resemble: Turtle Rock (Mongolian: Melkhii Khad) and the Old Man Reading a Book (Praying Lama Rock).
100 Lama's Cave: Right by the side of the road in the south of the Gorkhi/Terelj national park is this rocky outcrop that you can scramble up to squeeze within its cavernous space. It's where 100 lamas hid in an attempt to escape the purge in the 1930s. Tragically, however, they were found and executed.
You also can visit the Arryabal Meditation Temple located about 1 km (0.621 miles) from the Turtle Rock. You should walk 20-30 min after parking at the parking lot. The temple was built between 1998 and 2004 in a scenic and energetic area. The vista is expanse and picturesque when seeing from the temple elevation. We would be pleased to have you join us!.
The Best Time to Travel to Mongolia: The travel season begins in May. July and August are the peaks tourist season. September is autumn.
